SUMMER TRAVEL

Was viewing an abandoned railroad bed

Tracks removed years ago when trains were dead

Considered who might have passed where I stood

Football teams, soldiers, stars from Hollywood

Imagined sound of steel on steel friction

Sparks fly, horn blares at each intersection

For passengers, trains have become dinosaurs

Reserved for chairs and old dresser drawers

Most travelers prefer car ride to train

For a very long way may take a plane

Some say trip's purpose to safely arrive

But it's not a trip if you hate the drive

When traveling this always matters most

You're always the guest and never the host

If your journey takes you to see a friend

Use best behavior so to be invited again

When traveling remember if going far

You can't leave, where you go is where you are
